Washington (CNN) Georgetown restaurants reopened Thursday after a new security breach involving a computer and social media accounts that could have been used by the hackers to release confidential information, the city’s mayor said.
The Georgetown Police Department said that the department’s security team was notified of the breach late Thursday night.
Police have confirmed that the compromised social media and computer accounts contained personal information.
The city’s police chief said that it was the city and the university that initiated the investigation.
It was not immediately clear if the incidents were connected.
Georgetown is one of the top dining destinations in the US and has a strong reputation for welcoming travelers from all over the world.
It also happens to be a major hub for international students.
